The Sabres lost for the second time this season to the Soviets. Only seven skaters were available at game time, and Ron Morse was ejected from the game in the second period, leaving only one sub on the bench. Despite the lack of fresh legs, the Sabres stayed in the game being down one goal with two minutes left. The Soviets scored with 1:53 to go and topped it off with an empty net goal just before the buzzer to make it 7-4. Greg Nordick recorded two goals and an assist and Tyler Reese scored the other two goals.
