The Sabres demolished the Wolves, the new expansion team, in a lopsided 12-1 victory. Tom Fitch scored the game winning goal within two minutes after the start of the game, then added another goal and 3 assists for a 5-point game. Rob Bartley, Tyler Reese and Peter Komorowski all scored a pair of goals as well. Every skater got at least one point in the first two periods. The Wolves did score on a powerplay breakaway late in the second period, but only managed 14 shots on goal for the entire game. After taking a commanding 12-1 lead heading into the last period, the Sabres called off the dogs and only took a couple shots on goal, eating up the running clock in mercy.
