The Sabres' 6-game unbeaten streak came to an end when the fifth place Speedee upset them with a one goal margin. The Sabres were down 4-1 after a short-handed goal early in the third period and came back to tie it up with 3 straight goals, but Speedee's new sharpshooting defenseman, Reik, got the game winner past Sabres' goalie, Pete Griffith, on a breakaway with 4:22 left in the game. Stewart Sweda had two goals and an assist, while Ron Morse and Tyler Reese scored the other two goals and Rob Bartley racked up two more assists in the losing effort. Speedee outshot the Sabres 26-22.
